COUNSELOR FORMS

GUIDELINES FOR COUNSELORS

Counselors are the nourishment God has provided for the growth of our campers. Each counselor will be responsible for the children in their cabin (5-6) and will accompany them during their daily activities as well as staying with them after “lights out” or bedtime. Additionally, counselors will help to run and foster the activities (art, recreation, devotions, and whole group activities) that make the days fun, exciting, but also safe for all the campers each day. Counselors must also follow the guidelines below:

Socially love children and accept them; stimulate enthusiasm for all activities.

Emotionally foster relationships with children when they are sad, lonesome, homesick, or just need someone to talk to.

Physically enjoys the outdoors and is able to meet the demands of a week at camp.

Spiritually share a deep commitment to God and His Word with prayer and love.

Also, because we teach by example, counselors must adhere to the following rules:

No alcoholic beverages.

No smoking.

No leaving the camp grounds without the permission of the Dean, and then only in an emergency.

We thank God that you are prayerfully considering His call in service as a camp counselor. Please continue to pray for a happy and safe camping season for all attending Camp Linn Haven.  Please submit your application before April 1, 2008. You will receive a covenant to sign and an information sheet 2-3 weeks prior to your arrival times. Covenant of Service at Camp Linn Haven

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” -Luke 18:16

As I serve at Camp Linn Haven, I promise to keep these words, the very words of Christ himself, at the forefront of my mind in everything I do.

I promise to keep them in my prayers.

I promise to pray for these children before we even meet together at camp, that their hearts may be made ready and that as they travel to camp they may be kept safe.

I promise to pray that these children are enriched with the message of Jesus while they sleep, play, eat, and sing in fellowship with their friends and counselors during their week at camp.

After we part ways, I promise to keep these precious children in my thoughts and prayers, that as they continue to grow physically, so too will they also grow in their faith and the knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

I promise to be unselfish with my time.

Although it may be tiresome, I promise that morning, noon, or night, the interests of the children will be held above my own.

From the moment I arrive at camp, I promise to look for ways in which to serve others above myself; whether organizing activities, playing with children, cleaning up after events, or taking time to listen to a child.

I promise to respect the leadership and facilitators of the camp and respected camp activities.

Regardless of the activities being conducted at camp, I promise to look at them with an open mind and contribute to them with helping hands.

If I disagree with an activity or the facilitation of an activity I promise to meet with the leadership in confidence and with calmness so that any issues may be taken care of without unnecessary rumors or conflict.

If I hear any rumors of conflict or concern regarding camp matters, I promise not to spread them, but to inform camp leaders or facilitators and trust them to resolve the issues.

I promise to use good judgment and self-control in handling campers.

I understand that the children attending camp are from various homes and backgrounds, but are still each a special gift from God. I promise to treat each one with love and fairness.

If a conflict arises between myself and a child, I promise to use self-control and seek guidance in handling the situation.

It is by the grace and love of God that I, _____________________________ (print name), want to fully commit my service to Camp Linn Haven and keep these promises. ________________________________________(sign name) ________________(date).
